Soft light v Hard light

This photo exhibits hard light and a warm color balance. It was taken with a Canon EOS REBEL T3i at f/4.5 and 37mm, ISO 320, shutter speed 1/50. I noticed the awesome lighting of the setting sun as I was passing these trees at dawn, and couldn't resist photographing them.
